The Jose Marti football teams have been making progress over the past three years. The team missed the second round in the under16 boys competition by a point for two consecutive years .The Under 13 team made it to the second round of 2019 and our girls team was on the brink of creating history by making it to the second round, they were joint first place with St. Jago on 10 points. then came the pandemic and derailed the progress.
The manning cup team now is structured with players from our youth system u13, and u16 teams. The players were on a 3 year development program since 2016. However the pandemic came, we lost most of our players to other schools and other reasons beyond our control.
Jose Marti under 13 football team created history when they made it to the second round for the first time in the school's football history, they won the zone with 13 points. Ten of those players remains with the Team . My mandate as the coach is to develop these players not only for our senior team but to become better citizen of tomorrow.
To date we have a very young team in terms of age however they've gain some experiences from playing u13 and u16.Two of those players played at the the parish level.
The girls team is on a rebuilding process about 10 players remain at José from the 2019 squad so we are recruiting within the school to commence training early next year.
Adianna Morrison our midfielder and center forward who played at age 13 have made great progress by playing for the Jamaica National u15 team in the Dominican Republic summer 2021. She has the potential to do great things in the future.
I must mention with the help of JMAANY coming on board to give the Sports Department the energy and support, we were able to make progress and the best is yet to come. I believe we have a youth developmental program that can take these students a far way. We may not win the manning cup, u16, u13 or the girls competitions however they are making progress by playing for our national team and being better persons in our society.
There's a lot of talent amongst this young team, we're appealing to past students to come and board to help sustain this developmental program and to keep the players at Jose Marti.
